✖ FAQ
Q. I wish to play a canon character. Do I still need to create a character sheet before I start role playing?
A. Yes, its required of you to post a description of your character before you start role playing, whether you wish to play a canon character or not.
Q. Do I have to play a canon character or can I create a character of my own?
A. It is not required of you to play a canon character, they are simply characters with their own subplots already set up, leaving you with pre-established plot lines, and if you don't want to play one of them, feel free to create your own character. Should you wish to create an original character, feel free to make them have their own plot lines with free canons.
Q. Can I make my human character a metal man?
A. Yes, it is allowed to have your character suddenly find out they are a metal man, though we'd appreciate it if you kept that to original characters only and not a canon character without PMing an admin first (if you're interested, a canon named Lillian already has this trait). Also, if your character is a member of one of the Houses, don't expect this little revelation to go without consequence- they'd better be careful or else they'll find themselves disowned...or worse.
Q. Can I make my human character suddenly find out they're a hybrid?
A. No, unlike Metal Men who simply find out they are transformed, sometimes at random, the mutation that formed the hybrids is genetic, passing only from parent to child and it is impossible for a human or metal-man character to become a hybrid, and likewise, it is impossible for a hybrid character to become a human or metal-man.
Q. Can hybrids be a member of one of the Houses?
A. No, hybrid's are only seen as animals and thus, cannot be a member of one of the noble Houses, however, they can live in the House provided they belong to a member of it.
Q. Can metal-men/humans be members of the rebels?
A. No, Metal-men and humans cannot be members of the rebels. The group is solely dedicated to hybrids, as they are 'rising against' the oppression of the humans. Metal-men and humans however, can play roles as informants provided they go to the right people :P.
Q. Does my hybrid character have to be a member of the rebellion if they are not a pet? (can they be neutral?)
A. Hybrid characters do not have to be members of the rebellion nor do they have to support being 'pets'. It's entirely possible for them to be neutral, and it also helps open up new areas for the plot to develop so feel free to make your character neutral! However, we do request that canon characters who are members of the rebellion or that actively support being pets keep true to this. However with canon characters that don't mention anything about the rebellion at all with their descriptions, it is entirely up to you to decide where their loyalties lie.
Q. Can I create a foreign character? (i.e. a character not from the City?)
A. You can feel free to create a character who isn't from the city, though its a bit different for nobles in the three main houses (Goldsbloom, Whitestag & Silverhollow). For nobles who are foreign, they must have either been married into a house or have a parent who was married into the House. Nobles from other houses, Middies and Poors have a bit more lee-way as do hybrids and metal-men.
Though this usually applies to Original characters, you can also apply this concept to canon characters (though we ask that the canon nobles only have their parents married in). If you're unsure whether your character will fit these guidelines, please feel free to ask a staff member and we'll be glad to help you.
Q. Can there be cross breeds?
A. It depends on which crossbreed you are asking about. There can be human/metal-man cross breeds, and the chance increases particularly if the mother is human. Metal-men women tend to have more trouble conceiving, particularly because some of them might have a metal womb, although there can be occurrences of this happening. This is because Metal-men are fundamentally human, with little to no change to their DNA besides the metal parts.
As for metal-men x hybrid cross breeds, should a child be born of this union, they are generally highly deformed (i.e. have their organs on the outside, grossly exaggerated human parts) and generally the child does not live past the age of 2 years. There are also severe mental handicaps because of this, and more often then not, the mothers (particularly hybrid mothers) see it as more of a mercy to put the child out of its misery.
The same goes for human x hybrid children. The cross breeds born from this union are severely mentally handicapped most of the time, and like metal-man/hybrid cross breeds, they usually display severe physical disfigurement as well.
This is part of the reason why hybrids are considered to be so low, and why copulation between humans/metal men and hybrids are seen as such bad things.
However, despite these common occurrences, it does not mean that a cross breed cannot occur. If you wish to play a successful crossbreed between a hybrid and a metal man/human, you first have to get permission from an admin and there has to be some consequence to your character (i.e. they look solely animal, are mute, ect.).
Q. Is ownership inherited? That is, if a hybrid pet is allowed to breed does his or her child belong to his or her owner? Can hybrids (both feral and pet) own an animal pet of their own?
A. Ownership can be inherited depending on the Owner's will at the time. If they don't have one then generally the hybrid goes to either the next of kin (provided that they are willing to take the hybrid of course) or gets euthanized.
If a hybrid is allowed to breed, then yes, their child belongs to the owner- not to the hybrid themselves. Rare hybrids, usually exotics, that are in breeding programs hardly ever see their children afterwards, and usually, the father hardly plays any roll in the child's life, if they even meet the child at all. Mothers generally have a bit more sway, as the child is usually kept with them until they are weaned, and then they are sold or kept at the owner's discretion.
As for owning an animal, it depends. Hybrid Ferals can own pets without any problem, but pets hybrids need to get permission from their owner before hand since its seen as another mouth to feed, and a gift to the hybrid.
Q. a) Are Silverhollow scientists exclusively working for the Silverhollows or can they be working for the other houses?
b) If so would they be living with the other houses or still in Silverhollow to conduct their experiments?
A. (a)The Silverhollow scientists generally work exclusively for the Silverhollow House, which is one of the reasons why Silverhollow became so powerful, and thus is one of the main powers in the City, however, they can be bought (for a high price) by other houses.
(b) It is highly unusual for any noble to live in a House not their own, unless they were married into the other House (i.e. for an alliance). Should a scientist be working for another House though, they would most likely stay in the guest quarters during the time they are contracted for, though most might want to still stay in Silverhollow due to the resources that the other House might lack.
Q. Who owns and can use Magna-Weapons? Can an authorized person keep one for him or herself (for example a scientist or noble)?
A. The Magna-Weapons are usually given out to the city guards or the police force, and as such, both Goldsbloom (as they run the judicial aspects of the City) and Whitestag (as they own the law enforcement and protect the people) would have them. Middies and poors would only recieve Magna-Weapons via the black market. Authorized people would be able to own them as well, but they would most likely have a card or a seal stating that they have the authority to actually use it (think of Magna-Weapons as sort of like guns- there are gun rights and thus there are Magna-Weapon rights).
Q. How often do the noblemen from different houses interact?
It depends on the noblemen. Lesser nobles are more likely to meet up then the higher nobles, except for parties where the nobles are trying to show off to each other. Dignitaries from each House would also have a higher chance of interacting with each other, while the heads would most likely interact with only the few dignataries, and if the situation warranted it, another head. The Houses work sort of like Kingdoms, so imagine each sector as a different fief. They meet randomly, with people visiting from place to place. Since they're actually not that far apart, most of the lesser nobles meet more frequently, and there are usually dinner parties where the Houses mingle, not to mention the charity events that most attend, if only to show off to the public. There are also times when the Houses forge alliances, promising some of their members to another via marriage or something of the like, to better strengthen the bonds between them.
Q. Is a scientist considered a nobleman?
Most common scientists are not considered noblemen, but the head scientists are usually noblemen, particularly those involved in the more well known science firms. Lesser scientists, particularly the orderlies or those devoted to the more menial work are usually upper class Middies, and are only able to work in the higher firms due to perseverance and connections. Poors and Middies of the lower financial spectrum rarely make it to becoming a scientist, as usually they don't have the necessary funds required to complete the extensive education it requires.
Q. Do characters age in real time? Or will there be a system for aging?
A. As there is no specific system yet, characters age real time. This might change later though, but a notice will be made if it does. For now, you can just assume that characters age as you do.
Q. Where do the characters live? Do they all stay in their respective house's manor?
A. It depends on the character. Nobles usually live in the Sector of the House they're from. The main family will live in the manor itself, while branch members will live either smaller manors around the main House or live scattered throughout that House's particular sector. Middies, Poors and Metal-men generally live in the Central Sector, in a House of their own while the orphans of St. Bartleby's are confined there until they become of age, after-which, at the age of 18, they can set out to buy their own house or live in a small shack manned by the orphanage until they can find their own place.
Hybrid pets live solely with their owners while Ferals generally congregate in the outskirts, usually in small shanty-towns or slums due to their low standing in society.
Q. What currency is used in the City?
A. Gold coins are the main currency in the city, followed by silver and then by copper, copper being the cheapest of the three forms. Gold coins are worth about 100 copper coins, and are worth about 10 silver coins. Silver coins are worth 10 copper coins.
There are also forms of notes or bills, named after the coins they represent (i.e. gold notes, silver notes, copper notes) and each note corresponds to a particular coin. Notes however, are usually more popular among the poorer classes, as they are lighter and less cumbersome. As such, it is much more common to see a copper note rather than a copper coin.
In some cases, people will also trade jewels for objects, and many of the poorer places in the city (i.e. the outskirts & the red light district) rely solely on bartering in order to exchange goods and services. Hybrids in particular, have much more trouble in garnering notes and coins as they are seen as animals, and most owners don't see fit to give their pets their hard earned money
Q: Let's say someone stumbles on this forum and loves it ( because the plot is awesome) on first sight. Said player manages to have a character planned and ready to go. But the plot's already going and it's hard to fit in. What can he/she do? Should she try planning on the sub-plots board then joining or go straight and sticking the character into a spot?
A: If a person joins later during the plot, they can do either one. The best solution though, would be to message or pm the other members and see if they can squeeze the character in. If they're still having trouble, they can PM me (admin) and I can help them work in a way for their character to get into the plot.
Q: While I'm not really a romance writer ( I can write fluff if needed though) :'D
How do we go about the shipping boat? Do we have to get permission from the other roleplayer before pairing characters together? Or is it fine to show interest without them agreeing to it?
A: It's fine to show interest in another character, but if you want the romance to be anything substantial, it's best to PM the role-player in charge of the character, just to be sure they are okay with the romance. On a side note, if you are playing a canon and someone has already mentioned that their canon is feeling interest in your canon (via a character sheet) you do not have to feel pressured to make your canon character like theirs in a romantic way.
Q: Can people create another species of character?
A: New species can be invented by buying the perk from the site shop and are subject to admin approval.
Q: What happens when two hybrids of a different type (say Dog hybrid and Cat hybrid) conceive?
A: When two hybrids of a different type conceive, the child will take the traits of 1 parent. For example, if a coyote hybrid and a leopard hybrid conceive, then the child will either be a coyote or a leopard.
The only exception to this would be if the species have been known to mate in the real world, or example, if a Lion hybrid and a tiger hybrid conceived, then their child would become a 'liger' hybrid rather than just taking after one of its parents.
Q: What about women wearing pants,I know it wouldn't be a good idea in the Victorian era but this is steampunk
A: While its not exactly common, women do wear pants. Particularly since this is considered 'neo-victorian' era, there are still something that stick from modern times even if it seems like time has been pushed back. (ex. pants, guns). It tends to be more common among the working class women, and is typically seen as a woman attempting to be masculine. Sort of a power show, if you will. It's fairly common amongst female bodyguards (metal-men women in particular) as dresses tend to get in the way if they're protecting a client. A few noble women also wear them, but that's usually if they're participating in a sport (i.e. hunting, horseback riding, ect.)
